I've always created things. Some useful, others purely decorative. Lately, I've become obsessed with leather masks. I love making both sculptural and carved masks. I also work with copper and am waiting for my muse to inspire me to blend the materials on a mask, like I do on the bags I create.
My mask making sprung from my background as a makeup artist. The first mask I created was for one of the first high school productions of Phantom of the Opera, and was custom made for the actor to fit over the latex prosthetics I designed for him. It was made using a gauze base because I had no idea at that point what I can do with leather!
I have no formal art training. What I do is intuitive. Sculptural masks literally go straight from my head to leather. Then I make a pattern, so I can reproduce my own work. Although I've created things my entire adult life, I've never considered myself an artist until last year.
Hope you enjoy my work!
